Bill Nelson and Tom Banwell, Creating Unique Art Figures -

Flutter

Flutter is the first automaton to be made by Nelson & Banwell, a partnership of Bill Nelson and Tom Banwell. Flutter is a sweet little fellow who is wistfully looking to the clouds, stretching his arm skyward, and wishing he could fly away from his every day cares. As the brass handle on his side is turned, his head goes up and down, the brass wings on top of his head gently flap, and his left arm rises and falls.

Flutter is made of Lumicast™ resin and is dressed in Elizabethan garb, with metallic ruff, breeches, and trim. Lovingly sculpted by Bill, he wears a richly quilted purple doublet. Flutter stands on a beautiful cultured marble base done by Tom in an Art Deco style in black and forest green. Wearing leather shoes, Flutter stands about 19" tall including the base.

Flutter sells for $1200.00 US, and is limited to an edition of ten. This wonderful automaton was featured as a poster in the February/March 1998 Contemporary Doll Collector magazine. Each piece is signed by both artists and numbered.
